Book Reviews and Recommendations

This term we have been trying to come up with ideas to promote reading for enjoyment at Ashfield. So we have decided to introduce a place on the blog where children and staff can write about their favourite books. Please include:
  • A brief summary of the plot
  • What you liked about this book
  • Who you would recommend it to (age / gender)
To add your own book review and recommendation just simply type in the 'comment'box below.
You may also wish to read other peoples comments to find a new book to read.
Happy reading!

  1. I am currently two thirds of my way through reading The Millenium Trilogy, a set of 3 books written by a Swedish author called Stieg Larsson. The central character is a journalist called Mikael Blomkvist who has to help an old man to solve a very old family mystery.

I read the first 2 books on holiday last year and could not put them down. They are absolutely gripping - full of twists, turns, suspence and suprises in every chapter. I cannot wait to read the final part in the series this summer.

I would only recommend these books to adults who enjoy crime fiction, they definitely do not make light reading!!

  2. I have read a book called the boy in the dress by David Walliams . Dennis the boy lives in a boring house in a boring street in a boring town. But he`s about to find out that when you open your mind, life becomes anything boring! you'll laugh, you`ll cry.
This book is very funny and once I read this book I wanted to read more of David Walliams books.

This is a book about a 12 year old boy called Dennis. he lives with his dad and his older brother John. His mother left and Dennis`s dad burnt all the photos of her. But Dennis kept one because he liked the dress she was wearing. Dennis liked collecting girls fashion magazines called Vogue. Dennis meat a girl called Lisa. She liked reading the same magazine and she designed dresses. So they became best friends. One day Lisa decided to dress Dennis up in one of her dresses. When his dad found out he wasn't very happy.

I recamed this book for 9+ and all genders. If you like funny books then read this book because it is amazing.
